![]() ![]() From there we learn of how Viola fell ill and died, becoming the Lady in the Lake and setting out on a tear to find her daughter, killing many in her wake. This episode takes it back hundreds of years ago to when Viola (Kate Siegel) and her sister Perdita (Katie Parker) were the ladies of the house. So why is a plague-doctor ghost hovering around Bly Manor? In episode eight we find out. The magazine quoted Charles de Lorme, a 17th-century plague doctor, who described the mask as "half a foot long, shaped like a beak, filled with perfume with only two holes, one on each side near the nostrils, but that can suffice to breathe and carry along with the air one breathes the impression of the enclosed further along in the beak." According to National Geographic, these doctors believed the masks would keep them from catching the plague, which ended up being inaccurate. Centuries ago, doctors who treated plague patients wore recognizable masks with long black beak-like noses. Even out of focus or far away, he's easy to spot with his long black beak. The plague-doctor ghost can be seen in the background of many scenes early on in the season. One ghost appears frequently in the first few episodes, but it takes until episode eight before we learn his whole story. Blink and you'll miss some of the ghosts, but some are much more prominent. When I go into the bathrooms and look into the mirror, the beak, hat, and garb are on me I had become the Plague Doctor.The Haunting of Bly Manor has ghosts around every corner, lurking behind the manor's residents and even possessing them from time to time. When I look at my hands, apparently he gave me a sphere with me trapped inside of it. ![]() When I arrive without thinking to peek at what he gave me, I show the men at the desk. He places something in my hand I just rush to the department. When morning came up, I went to the police department, but on the way there, the plague doctor himself approached me. Next to me is a note, "You didn't send this to the ten, so I'll continue until you do." When I pull up the covers, there are leeches all over me. During the night, I felt odd, squishy things under me. Terrified and I figured I had enough, I went to my friends house because I didn't feel safe. "How determined do you think we are just to prank you during the night, when we live about ten miles away from you?" He did have a point.ĭoing research, apparently Plague Doctors would poke their patient with a stick to keep a safe distance while examining them. "Did you guys come to my house last night to prank me?" I ask them on the phone. When the morning rose up, I would assume it's my dear friends pulling a prank. When I returned home, I was sleeping, but woke up to what felt like a stick poking at my feet, legs, and stomach. Not one day have they touched their email. When the party slowly simmers, I check their computer for the answer, since who would personally ask if it was them when they could lie? Their computer's history hasn't been wiped since the New Year's party. This had to be a prank from my parents so I drove to their house when they have their Halloween party. I opened it and it read: -Carter, I know how much you feared me as a child, so as a deal, I'll stop haunting you if you send this to ten other people. ![]() You know, the ones about how if you don't send it to this amount of people, the ghost of some dead person will haunt you? Well, I notice one in particular, the topic saying: Plague Doctor. One particular day, I browsed my email, a portion of it are those annoying chain emails. Nowadays, I still do even if I'm grown up. Usually I'd go to my parents when I have nightmares, normally about the plague doctor. When I was little, I would always be afraid of the man in the beaked mask. ![]()
